The idea of Oktoberfelvis is not so far-fetched. Not only do Elvis Presley and Germany go together now—they were together in the past! We're pretty sure that if Elvis were still around, he'd approve. Heck, he even sang in German.
Elvis was stationed in Germany, from 1958 to 1960, after he was drafted for military service at the height of his fame. This practically makes him Leah's cousin! Here's a slideshow of photos from his time there. He lived in Bad Nauheim, where he met his wife, Priscilla. They still celebrate his death there every August. (She invites you to come to Oktoberfelvis. Really!)
If you've been looking for a blow-by-blow description of this period of his life, then this page is for you. Good luck.
Note: there appears to be a thriving Elvis impersonator industry in Germany.
As for Oktoberfest, there's nothing like it. The 2019 celebration's beer tents drew nearly 6.3 million visitors who consumed 7.3 million beers, 509,420 grilled chickens, 122,658 pairs of pork sausage, and 80,259 knuckles of pork. (By the way, Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival that starts in September. This year will be the 187th Oktoberfest in Munich.)
Oktoberfest is a volksfest. The famous Oktoberfest takes place in Munich. Tom has been to Oktoberfest in Munich, but Leah and Tom have not traveled there together.
We did, however, go together to the local version in downtown Stuttgart, called the Cannstatter Volksfest. It may not have been as large as the official Oktoberfest, but we learned how to throw a party German-style!
